Beer, La Birra, Bier

Ahhh...icy cold fresh beer from the tap...ooo Newcastle...you are my friend. Beer is an incredibly satisfying beverage next to wine. It goes great with wings, summer barbeques, pizza, great friends, great company, good times. I was listening to NPR the other day and it is reported that the beer industry, especially local microbreweries are doing exceptionally well in this economic downfall that is so comprehensive in our everyday lives. It is great to hear that an industry exists in the US that isn't hurting right now. I guess people drink when the times get hard to make the hard times seem softer. Ales, lagers, IPAs (Indian Pale ales), wheat beers, fruity beers (lambics), what's your favorite?

  1. Did you hear about the proposed 1,900% tax increase on breweries in Oregon? I saw it through CNN: Beer Tax

  2. A 1900% tax is so damn ridiculous on microbreweries! It's incredibly unfair because it focuses on the small businesses. In an economic time like this, they are at a large risk and to forsake them is stupid. I understand that the alcoholic beverage industry is still doing well, but what kind of nation forsakes it's successful businesses to give to lesser organizations? What kind of anarchy is this country becoming?

  3. Ah! Another Newcastle fan! I'm not alone in the world anymore! I'm continually amazed by the fact that many of my guy friends, who identify as beer aficionados, usually order PBR or Miller Lite when we go out on weekends--and mind you, this is not for the purpose of getting lit, but as an accompaniment to a meal...I don't understand it, when a fine pint can so enhance a meal. To answer your question, right now Newcastle is my preferred beer, but I also enjoy Wicked Ale's Strawberry Blonde, Fat Tire, Sierra Nevada, and Abita beer (can you tell I'm a big fan of supporting microbrews). As far as the more mainstream goes, I'm a Guinness girl, and on occasion, a Sam Adams fan. I also have a question for you--do you prefer different beers at different times of year? I love dark brews in the winter...but maybe it's just me.
